Puglia, Italy · Oct 21-31, 2013
Oct 21-31, 2013. 11 days, 10 nights.
Come explore this beautiful southern coastal region of Italy, cherished by Italians and held by some to have the most amazing food in the country, and yet very little known to the rest of the world.
This is one of our partner tours, and we keep the group small – only 4 to 7 guests. Zingerman’s staff will not be on this tour; you will be traveling with Zingerman’s Food Tour partner and long-time friend Gioacchino Passalacqua. Gioacchino, who is fluent in English, was born in Sicily, and when he is not leading food tours or cooking wonderful meals he spends his time seeking out artisanal food producers all over Italy and helping them bring their products to market.
The trip is designed for experienced travelers with a passion for traditionally made foods. Tour guests need to enjoy walking – you will explore some very old, lovely towns that can have steep, sometimes cobblestone, streets.
A wonderful and unique experience! You’ll be staying in the towns of San Gregorio, Lecce, and Polignano a Mare – several nights in each with day trips taken around each area.
All breakfasts are included; the hotels provide a wonderful selection for breakfast. Nine of the ten dinners and four of the lunches will be as a group. At meals together you will be enjoying a set menu of fabulous local specialties made from local, fresh, in-season ingredients and a local wine pairing.
Visits to local producers of traditional, artisanal food – see the Foods and Itinerary buttons above for more on that!
A hands-on cooking class with an experienced local chef.
There will be guided walking tours of some of the cities you visit. And, time for you to explore on your own.
You will receive a folder with information about the producers and about the places that you will visit during the tour.
Transfer to and from the airport, as well as transportation by air conditioned private bus for the entire tour are included.
